In a momentous and pioneering achievement, Uzoma Chioma Asagwara, hailing from Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State, has been inaugurated as the new Health Minister and Deputy Premier of the Province of Manitoba in Canada.

In 2019, Asagwara was initially elected, making history as the first non-binary and gender non-conforming Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Manitoba. She was also one of the first three Black MLAs elected in the province’s history.
Prior to her election, Asagwara dedicated her time to working as a full-time psychiatric nurse, specializing in mental health and addictions.
