No Christians should be President of Nigeria; they kill Muslims when in power

In a controversial statement, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi expressed his view that Christians should not be allowed to hold the position of President in Nigeria. He claimed that Christians perpetrate injustice and target Muslims when they are in power.

Gumi made these remarks in a viral video during a sermon where he reacted to rumors about the possible demolition of part of the Abuja Central Mosque by Nyesom Wike, the FCT minister.

He defended the nepotism seen during the presidency of Muhammadu Buhari, where many security agencies were headed by Muslims, stating that Muslim nepotism does not harm anyone. He also expressed concerns about power shifting to Christians, suggesting it would lead to destruction.

Mr. Gumi referenced historical events such as military coups that resulted in the deaths of prominent northern Muslims, including Sir Ahmadu Bello and Murtala Muhammed, portraying them as religious wars led by Christians against Muslims. He did not mention the July 1966 coup that challenged his extremist viewpoint.
