Kano Court Sentences Opay Agent To Nine Months In Jail For Stealing customers cash
Rabi’u Issah Gaida, an Opay agent, has been sentenced to nine months in prison.
On Friday, a Kano Shari’a court sitting in Kwana Hudu sentenced him to prison.
Before the Shari’a court, he was charged with breach of trust, fraud, and the theft of N300,000 belonging to one Zubairu Murtala via online Bank transfer.
Aliyu Abidin, the prosecutor, told the court that the victim (Zubairu) claimed the defendant stole his N300,000 through an unauthorised online transfer after he gave him his phone to open an Opay wallet account.
The defendant pleaded guilty after the charges were read to him, claiming that he used the funds to wager with BetNaija.
The presiding judge, Nura Yusuf Ahmad, imposed a three-month sentence for breach of trust and a six-month sentence for theft, and ordered him to repay N300,000 of the stolen funds.
