APC Faction Declares Support For Rivers PDP Gov’ship Candidate, Fubara
A faction of the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared its support for Siminalayi Fubara, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate.
The leader of the faction, Tony Okocha, a member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council (APC PCC) in the state, has reportedly stated that the faction will support Fubara instead of Tonye Cole, the APC governorship candidate in the state.
Okocha told Channels Television that the faction’s support for Fubara represented a form of repayment to the PDP for its assistance during the presidential election.
Earlier reports indicated that the APC PCC credited Governor Nyesom Wike for the victory of its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, in Rivers State.
Tony Okocha, a member of the APC PCC and the leader of the Independent Campaign Council (ICC) in the state, announced this at a press conference in Port Harcourt, the capital of the state.
Okocha stated that without Wike’s efforts and support, the former governor of Lagos State would not have won the constitutionally required 25 percent of the vote.
He stated, “It is an understatement to say that Wike was crucial to the victory of our candidate Tinubu. A million times, the governor was instrumental in our victory.
“He advised the residents of Rivers to vote for someone who will support the state. He mobilized people and resources to guarantee this victory. We congratulate him”
Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Tinubu as the winner of the presidential election held on Saturday, February 25, 2023, on Wednesday of last week.
The APC leader argued that it was time to repay the PDP’s goodwill by backing its candidate to win the governorship election in the state.
