to Conduct Burial for Slain Soldiers from Delta on Wednesday

The Nigerian Army has announced the completion of all arrangements to provide a befitting burial for some of its personnel who were killed in action in Okuama Community, Delta State. The 17 deceased personnel, affiliated with the 181 Amphibious Battalion, will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery in Abuja on Wednesday.

They lost their lives while on a peace mission to the community, as confirmed by the military high command.

According to reports from Ejes Gist News, the tragic events unfolded on March 14, 2024, when the troops responded to a distress call during a communal crisis between the Okuoma and Okoloba communities in the South South State.

In response to this heinous crime, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, promptly ordered the immediate investigation and arrest of those responsible. Consequently, many residents of the community were forced to flee their homes.

In an official announcement made on Tuesday, Major-General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Army spokesman, disclosed that President Bola Tinubu will be in attendance as the Special Guest of Honour to pay his last respects to the fallen heroes.

The burial ceremony is set to take place at the National Cemetery in Abuja on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 3:00 pm.

In a notice forwarded to Ejes Gist News by Captain Audu Arigu, the army spokesman emphasized the commitment of troops to their constitutional duties, stating, “The Burial Ceremony of Nigerian Army Personnel killed in action at Okuama Community, Delta State, is scheduled for Wednesday, 27 March 2024, at the National Cemetery, Abuja, at 1500hrs (3:00pm).

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, will be the Special Guest of Honour at the event.”
