Allow old, new notes coexist, APC Governors begged President Buhari
Nigerian governors who were elected on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) have asked President Muhammadu Buhari to let the old and new naira notes coexist so that Nigerians don’t have to suffer as much.
Nasir El-Rufai, the governor of Kaduna, spoke to some Hausa-speaking journalists on Friday. He said that while the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) took in more than N2 trillion in old notes, it only printed N300 billion, which is not enough, in his opinion.

El-Rufai, who was with his counterpart in Kano, Abdullahi Ganduje, said that even if the CBN had wanted to implement the cashless policy, it should have printed N1 trillion, which is half of what it mopped up, as a first step.
He said that they told the President that the people are suffering and that merchants are losing money because no one is buying their goods.

He talked about tomato sellers who went to Lagos with their goods but didn’t sell anything because no one had any money.
The Governor said that they asked the President to change his mind about what he was doing.
El-Rufai, on the other hand, said that Buhari did not say yes or no.

He said that Atiku Bagudu, who is the leader of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), has gone back to see the President alone to try to convince him.
