It has been revealed why Bola Tinubu travelled outside of Nigeria.
The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council has refuted rumours that the incoming president, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has been flown overseas for emergency medical treatment.
The alleged ailment of the ex-governor of Lagos and his late-evening flight to London, United Kingdom, were extensively covered by the media.
Ejes Gist News Nigeria reports that Peter Obi, candidate for the Labour Party, submitted a petition protesting the results of Saturday’s presidential election, which produced the president-elect, hours before the latest development.
It is not the first time the president-elect has allegedly received medical care abroad.
Wednesday, in response to the news of Tinubu’s illness, Bayo Onanuga, the APC PCC Director of Media and Publicity, denied the allegation, stating that his boss had only travelled abroad to rest.
After observing the annual Muslim fast, Onanuga also stated that he would use his holiday time to perform Umrah (lesser Hajj).
He remarked, “Which Asiwaju is ailing. Was he not observed when he went to vote? Does he look like a sick man? The man has just returned from a holiday. He departed to rest. I believe he wants to take advantage of the opportunity to observe Ramadan outside of Nigeria and then perform Umrah before returning to Nigeria.
Since last year, this man has been constantly on the move, and he deserves all the rest he can get. His office will issue a statement shortly.”
Festus Keyamo, the chief spokesman for the APC PCC, shared Onanuga’s stance on the issue.
Keyamo observed that the people spreading the rumour are those who are still nursing their election defeat wounds.
“Please assist us in informing those spreading the news that the election has concluded. What they are doing now is post-election campaigning. Asiwaju should be left alone. After the election, he deserves some rest,” he said.
When asked which country Tinubu visited during his holiday, Keyamo responded that he cannot confirm at this time.
He stated, “I am unable to confirm.” All I can say is that Asiwaju is healthy and robust.
