Aviation workers protest that Arik Air needs investment to survive, not a feud with AMCON.

The National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) has stated that Arik Air requires investment in order to survive.

The investment, according to NUATE, is what Arik Air requires, not the ongoing dispute between the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) and the airline’s owners.

On Monday, NUATE general secretary Ocheme Aba issued a statement in which the aviation workers expressed their dissatisfaction.

NUATE has requested that the incoming aviation minister intervene to ensure that the stakeholders’ goals are in the best interests of the Receivers Manager, the workers, other creditors of Arik Air, and others.

According to Aba, the owners of Arik Air want to reclaim their company; however, AMCON’s plans for the airline are uncertain.

“We believe that, ultimately, the incoming Minister of Aviation will have to give due consideration in order to foster the necessary synergy among all stakeholders to ensure that the foregoing objectives are positively delivered in the interests of the owners, the Receivers Manager, the workers, other creditors of Arik Air, and the aviation industry at large,” the statement reads. This is unavoidably the responsibility of government.
