The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has rebuffed a widely circulated video depicting people protesting in front of his palace against the state of the economy.

The Emir, through his spokesperson Abdulazeez Arowona, clarified in a statement released on Sunday that the alleged protest did not occur at his palace. According to the statement, the viral video is from an event in 2019, during the lead-up to the general elections.

The statement asserts, “Our attention has been drawn to a video in circulation on social media platforms where some people are shouting and lamenting over poverty and hardship in front of the Emir’s Palace in Ilorin. We want to state categorically that the said video was part of the events that were characterized and witnessed during the build-up to the 2019 general elections.”

Highlighting the disconnect between the video and the current situation, the Emir emphasizes his consistent concern for peace and harmony in society. The statement underscores the Emir’s previous involvement during the COVID-19 pandemic and the scarcity of Naira currency, showcasing his commitment to addressing the challenges faced by the masses.
