Former Minister Babatunde Fashola Expresses Willingness to Serve Without Titles in Tinubu-led Administration.

Lagos, Nigeria – Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), the former Minister of Works and Housing and a close aide of President Bola Tinubu, has expressed his commitment to serving the country without the need for official titles. In a recent interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the Lagos State University in Ojo, Fashola reiterated his dedication to contributing to the nation’s progress in any capacity.

Fashola, a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, emphasized that titles and positions were not prerequisites for serving the country effectively. He pointed out that the president had appointed at least one minister from each state, and his duty was to serve in whatever capacity necessary.

I do not need a title to serve: the president can only appoint at least one minister, for example, from each state which he has done,” Fashola stated. “There are just enough places in parastatals; they are doing that; we are estimated to be 200 million, so there are not enough offices to take everybody. All of us must play our roles as citizens, and a citizen does not need a title to serve.”

Fashola also expressed confidence in the current administration’s efforts to nurture the next generation of leaders. He highlighted the importance of creating opportunities for young and capable individuals to contribute to governance.

“We are also talking about the next generation,” he explained. “If some do not move on, where is the place for the next batch? There is the need to bring more outstanding public-spirited people to occupy spaces as they evolve. I look forward to a lot more youthful people being part of the administration.

It’s worth noting that Mr. Fashola was not appointed to a ministerial position in President Tinubu’s cabinet, which was sworn in last month. Despite this, his dedication to serving the country remains unwavering, signaling his commitment to contributing to Nigeria’s development regardless of his official status.
