According to SaharaReporters, Gbagi allegedly apprehended the four employees who worked at Signatious Hotel in Effurun, Delta State, on  September 22, 2020. It was reported that they were subjected to a dehumanizing ordeal, including being stripped naked and photographed within the premises of the hotel before being handed over to the police.

A source, speaking on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the former minister accused his staff of pilfering the said amount. However, the source claimed that the money was actually a gift from a guest due to the staff’s exemplary behavior.

Identified as Gloria Oguzie, Victor Ephraim, Rosslyn Okiemute, and Achibong Precious, the four staff members were allegedly subjected to humiliation orchestrated by the hotel management, including the forceful withdrawal of funds from their bank accounts via their ATM cards.

Subsequently, the employees were charged before a magistrate court in Effurun after spending four days in detention. The charges leveled against them included allegations of conniving to steal varying sums of money belonging to Signatious Hotel, which are punishable under the criminal code Law of Delta State.

However, following intervention from anti-corruption and human rights activists, the four staff were granted bail on Monday. Omemiroro Maxwell Ogedegbe, a human rights lawyer based in Warri, confirmed the incident, stating that the employees were released on bail by the magistrate court.

The reported actions of Kenneth Gbagi have sparked outrage and raised concerns about the treatment of employees in workplaces across Nigeria. As the matter unfolds, it underscores the importance of upholding the rights and dignity of workers in all sectors.
