Spanish Football Federation President Provisionally Suspended by FIFA Over Controversial Incident.

 

In a surprising turn of events, the President of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, has been provisionally suspended by FIFA, the global governing body for football. This move comes after Rubiales’ involvement in a post-match incident that took place following Spain’s victory against England in the Women’s World Cup final held in Sydney.

Rubiales, 46, faced intense scrutiny for kissing forward on the lips during the celebrations that followed Spain’s triumph. Despite widespread criticism and calls for his resignation, Rubiales refused to step down from his position. The RFEF also announced its intention to take legal action against Hermoso, labeling her statements as “lies”.

However, FIFA took matters into its own hands by opting to provisionally suspend Luis Rubiales from all football-related activities at both national and international levels. This suspension is set to be in effect for an initial duration of 90 days, pending the outcome of the ongoing disciplinary proceedings. The decision was made public after FIFA formally opened disciplinary proceedings against Rubiales on Thursday.

Furthermore, FIFA has directed Rubiales and any representatives of the RFEF to refrain from attempting any form of contact with Jenni Hermoso, who remains a central figure in this controversy.
