A state of turmoil engulfed the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) stakeholders meeting scheduled for the forthcoming governorship election in Imo state.
Tensions flared as INEC’s National Commissioner representing the South East, Kenneth Ukeagu, representing INEC’s National Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, ordered journalists to cease recording their proceedings after officially commencing the interactive session.

Opposition political parties, represented by the running mates of the Labour Party’s governorship candidate, Tony Nwulu, and the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Jones Onyereri, vehemently objected to these directives.
They raised concerns that INEC’s actions suggested collusion with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to manipulate the upcoming election.

Nwulu, in particular, staunchly asserted that the media should not be barred from the stakeholders’ meeting. He questioned whether the gathering was intended to be “a secret cult” and alleged that INEC was orchestrating a plan to rig the election in favor of the APC.
Onyereri backed Nwulu’s claims and presented documents he described as fake results sheets posted on INEC’s portal during the House of Assembly election in the state. This revelation only added fuel to the already blazing fire of controversy surrounding the meeting.
