Funke Akindele, a Nollywood actress and PDP vice-gubernatorial candidate in Lagos, has lost her mother.
Olubunmi Akindele, the actress’s older sister, announced the news on Tuesday evening via her official Instagram account.
The statement read, “It is with heavy hearts, but in total submission to God Almighty, that the ADEBANJO and AKINDELE families announce the passing of their daughter, mother, grandmother, and sister, DR. R B ADEBANJO-Akindele, on February 7, 2023.”

“May her gentle soul find eternal rest in peace? Amen. Obsequies commemorating her death will be announced in due time.” She continued.

The cause of her death has not been disclosed by the family as of the time of filing this report. However, a source said she died after an undisclosed illness.
Godwin Akindele, the father of Funke, was a retired school principal from Ikorodu who passed away on December 7, 2019 after a brief illness.

In a recent interview, the mother of two stated that she filmed the famous market scene in the film with a broken heart, adding that she mustered the courage to continue filming.

Funke remarked that it was the last day of filming and that it was supposed to be a day of triumph, but it turned out otherwise.
She stated, “The most difficult aspect of filming Battle on Buka Street was the famous market scene, which I filmed while extremely depressed.

“It was one of the saddest days of my life, something very personal happened, I sobbed uncontrollably, and I was unable to film. I told myself Funke, challenges will arise, but don’t let them deter you, so I gathered my courage and filmed the scene.”
