In Imo State, a few gunmen have burnt down a high court which is stirring a lot of controversy.

On Saturday, the gunmen reportedly burned a portion of the Imo State high court’s Orlu building that housed confidential documents.

The development occurs just a few days after some armed men attacked the ’s Owerri headquarters.

According to information gathered, the complex serves as both the high court and the magistrates court.

All of the files in the building were torched, according to a judiciary employee who spoke to our correspondent under the condition of anonymity.

The police divisional headquarters and a security checkpoint are both nearby the Orlu high court.

The high court was demolished in 2018. The INEC office in Orlu was similarly set on fire on December 1.

Barnabas Munonye, the chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association’s Orlu branch, confirmed the incident and called it unfortunate.

He claimed that the association’s administrative secretary had brought the incident to his attention early on Saturday.

CSP Mike Abattam, a spokesman for the Imo State Police Command, confirmed the incident and stated that police were looking into it.
