Angry Youths Burn Down Police Station

In the early hours of Monday, youths broke into a police station on Olayiwola Close in the Oregun neighborhood of Ikeja, Lagos State, set it on fire, and hurt a police officer who was on duty.

The reason for the attack was unknown at the time this report was filed, but journalists in the area heard that the police officer who suffered a head injury was taken right away for treatment to the emergency room at the toll gate on the Lagos Ibadan Expressway.

It was discovered that while the station was engulfed in flames, members of the Lagos State Fire Service were phoned and dispatched to the spot to help.

Although the fire was put out, a portion of the police station’s building was damaged. But no weapons were taken.

When called and asked to confirm the attack, state police public relations officer SP Benjamin Hundeyin indicated an investigation had begun but “no suspect had been arrested.”
