The incident occurred during the inauguration ceremony for the new governor. The supporters reportedly booed the Emir, creating a tense atmosphere at the event.

The Emir of Bichi, Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero, who is the younger brother of the Kano Emir, has also been subjected to a similar treatment.

The monarchs were swiftly escorted to their seats by security operatives.

In 2020, Umar Ganduje, the former governor of the state, crowned Bayero as the 15th Emir of Kano. This came after the dethronement of Muhammadu Sanusi.

The dethronement of Sanusi was reportedly due to several reasons, including allegations of insubordination, failure to attend official meetings, and violation of Kano Emirate Law.

In April of this year, Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), stated that the incoming government in Kano would be revisiting certain issues.

In a recent statement, he revealed that he has been presented with the chance to reassess the dethronement of Sanusi and that he plans to provide counsel to the incoming government in his capacity as an elder.
