The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, faced a hostile reception from supporters of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) at the Sani Abacha Stadium. The incident occurred during the inauguration ceremony for the new governor. The supporters reportedly booed the Emir, creating a tense atmosphere at the event.
As soon as the first-class monarch arrived at the venue, an angry crowd began shouting at the top of their voices.
The Emir of Bichi, Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero, who is the younger brother of the Kano Emir, has also been subjected to a similar treatment.
The monarchs were swiftly escorted to their seats by security operatives.
In 2020, Umar Ganduje, the former governor of the state, crowned Bayero as the 15th Emir of Kano. This came after the dethronement of Muhammadu Sanusi.
The dethronement of Sanusi was reportedly due to several reasons, including allegations of insubordination, failure to attend official meetings, and violation of Kano Emirate Law.
In April of this year, Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), stated that the incoming government in Kano would be revisiting certain issues.
In a recent statement, he revealed that he has been presented with the chance to reassess the dethronement of Sanusi and that he plans to provide counsel to the incoming government in his capacity as an elder.
The elders in the movement have stated that they will persist in offering guidance to ensure proper conduct.
The possibility of the Emir’s removal was a topic that was avoided, but now it appears to be a viable option.
The next course of action and decision will be determined by the leaders appointed by God. The matter will be subject to review and subsequent determination of the appropriate course of action.
In a recent development, the emirates have been divided into five, in addition to the ongoing issue of changing the emir. All of that is set to undergo a review as well. As a leader assumes power, be it at the national, state, or local level, they are faced with a mix of favourable and arduous circumstances.
Former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, expressed confidence in divine intervention to guide the current governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, in resolving the challenges facing Kano state. Kwankwaso believes that this will lead to peaceful coexistence among the residents of Kano state.
