In a surprising turn of events, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Murtala Ajaka, has taken an early lead in the ongoing Kogi State Governorship election. Newsonline Nigeria reports that Ajaka, aged 45, is making significant strides in the polls.
Ajaka, a holder of a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree in Sociology from the University of Abuja, is showcasing his political prowess in the keenly contested election. Hailing from Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Ajaka has a rich political history.
He initiated his political journey as the Deputy State Secretary of the now-defunct Action Congress (AC), FCT Chapter. His commitment and dedication saw him rise to the position of the party’s National Assembly Liaison Officer. Before his recent defection, Ajaka had been a longstanding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) since its inception in 2013.
In 2020, he was appointed as a Special Adviser to the national chairman of the APC. Further solidifying his position within the party, in 2022, he was elected as the APC’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary at the party’s National Convention. However, a court ruling barred him from participating in the party’s governorship primary, leading to his defection from the APC this year.
