Tragically, the stray bullet struck young Onose, who had just been picked up from school by his parents, piercing his lower abdomen. Despite being swiftly rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) for immediate medical attention, the efforts to save his life proved unsuccessful. Meanwhile, Onose’s younger brother, who also fell victim to the incident with a bullet striking his eye, has undergone a successful surgical procedure and is currently showing signs of positive response to treatment.

Israel Joe conveyed his grief, stating, “Onose, who was innocently picked up from school by his parents, became an unintended victim of this tragic turn of events.

The bullet penetrated his lower abdomen, and despite the efforts of the medical team at FMC, with the support of Dr. Yusuf, a parent from the school, he couldn’t be saved. It is truly heartbreaking. Furthermore, the bullet also caused injury to his younger brother, affecting one of his eyes. Thankfully, he has undergone surgery and is now in stable condition, which we attribute to the grace of God.”

Expressing concern for justice and accountability, Joe urged the relevant authorities to initiate a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the untimely death of the young boy and the injury sustained by his brother. He further stated his intent to liaise with fellow activists in Asaba to provide support to the grieving parents at FMC, while also ensuring that a formal report is lodged with the police to facilitate proper documentation of the incident.
