Niger govt set to demolish police station for blocking water supply

To ensure uninterrupted water supply to Minna and its environs, the Niger State Government has ordered the demolition of a Police Station built on the main water pipeline from the Chanchaga water works.

During Niger State Governor Muhammad Bago’s visit to the police high command in Abuja, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Akali Baba approved the relocation of the station from its current location.

Recall that Bago had ordered the structure’s demolition on May 29, 2023, during his inauguration speech, because it stood on a major water supply pipeline.

It was discovered that the station has sat on a major water supply pipeline for more than a decade and could impede the state government’s new strategy to improve water distribution.

In this regard, the state government has already provided a larger building to house the local police station.

Governor Bago confirmed that the IGP has approved the relocation of the police station to allow the Niger State government to carry out its plans to ensure adequate water supply for the people.
