Rear Admiral AO Ayo-Vaughan, the naval spokesman, issued a statement on Saturday dismissing the publications as “untenable, baseless, and untrue.” Ayo-Vaughan attributed the reports to what he described as the machinations of oil thieves and disgruntled elements seeking to tarnish the reputation of the CNS.

The statement acknowledged a coordinated effort to discredit the office and the person of the CNS, pointing to the Navy’s intensified efforts to combat crude oil theft and illegal activities in the maritime domain. It suggested that the recent successes in curbing oil theft had unnerved a cartel that believed itself immune to confrontation.

Emphasizing the Navy’s commitment to upholding maritime security, the statement declared that legitimate businesses in the maritime domain would continue to thrive seamlessly despite the distractions. It underscored that the Navy’s resolve to confront criminals and safeguard the nation’s economy would not be swayed by unfounded allegations.
