What are the Nigerian newspapers’ headlines for today?



1) The legal battle to overturn Bola Tinubu’s election victory began on Monday, with the Presidential Election Petitions Court promising to deliver justice ”to those who deserve it.” The long-awaited pre-hearing proceeding was presided over by Justice Haruna Tsammani at the Court of Appeal in Abuja.



2) The camps of the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State are tense as the Supreme Court determines the winner of the 16 July 2022 governorship election in the state today May 9,2023.


3) dramatist, Prof. Wole Soyinka has dismissed as inappropriate and diversionary media reports that Peter Obi’s visit to Prof. Soyinka’s home in Abeokuta, Ogun State on Sunday was for reconciliation. Obi is the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the February 25, 2023 election.



4) The All Progressives Congress National Working Committee has nominated Godswill Akpabio and Abass Tajudeen for Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives, respectively, in the upcoming 10th National Assembly.



5) Monday’s crucial meeting of the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was nearly derailed by pockets of disgruntled party members. Numerous protestors under the auspices of APC North-Central stakeholders stormed the national secretariat of the party to express their displeasure with the alleged marginalisation of their region in the Senate presidency zoning.


6) Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, the Emir of Kagarko in the southern part of Kaduna State, had nine of his children, grandchildren, and three others in the town abducted by gunmen suspected of being bandits. According to a local resident who spoke with our reporter, the gunmen stormed the area at 11:15 p.m. and headed straight for the Emir’s residence.



7) The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the results of the final 80,000 candidates who took the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The final examination was held on Saturday, May 6, 2023.



8) The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, stated that Nigerians should support the incoming administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu following his inauguration on May 29. The powerful monarch spoke in Lagos while hosting a Kenyan presidential delegation at his Lagos residence.


9) On Monday, the Yaba Magistrates’ Court remanded three cult suspects for alleged murder, robbery, and illegal possession of weapons. They were suspected of murdering Victor Isa.



10) Bandits have released three of the remaining seven girls from the Federal Government College in Birnin Yauri, Kebbi State. Malam Salim Kaoje, chairman of the parents’ Abducted School Girls’ Forum, reported on Monday that the newly released girls arrived in Kebbi on Monday afternoon.
