In a candid revelation, former President Muhammadu Buhari shed light on the complexities of governing Nigeria, expressing the arduous nature of leading a nation characterized by its populace’s staunch demands and vigilance.
In his first interview since handing over the presidential reins to President Bola Tinubu in May, Buhari acknowledged the inherent difficulty in governing Nigerians, describing them as exceptionally challenging to lead.
Reflecting on his eight-year tenure as the nation’s leader, Buhari noted, “God gave me the opportunity to serve my country, but I did my best. But whether my best was good enough, I leave for people to judge.”

“Nigerians are extremely difficult. People know their rights. They think they should be there, not you. So, they monitor virtually your every step.
And you have to struggle day and night to ensure that you are competent enough,” Buhari stated.
Addressing concerns about the potential influence of a “cabal” during his tenure, Buhari conceded that such an influence might have existed, suggesting that certain individuals might have overstepped legal boundaries.
However, he indicated uncertainty regarding whether those who violated the law faced appropriate consequences.
