The Abia State Government led by governor Okezie Ikpeazu has joined forces with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) to establish modular refineries within the state. The collaboration was announced by Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, during a meeting with NNPCL Group Managing Director, Mele Kyari, in Umuahia on June 28, 2023.
Ikpeazu stated that these modular refineries would be constructed at various locations throughout the state and would be utilized to process crude oil into refined products like gasoline, diesel, and kerosene. The governor emphasized that these refineries would generate employment opportunities and enhance the state’s economy.

Kyari expressed the NNPCl’s dedication to supporting the Abia State Government in its endeavor to construct the modular refineries. He assured that the NNPCL would extend technical and financial assistance to the state government.
Construction of the modular refineries is anticipated to commence within the coming months and is projected to be finalized within a two-year timeframe.
