Though we condemned the gruesome murder of 17 military officers at Okuama Community , the behaviour of the military against a defenceless and unarmed civilian population in Okuama Community and environs, particularly the continuous detention of the Ovie of Ewu, a revered traditional ruler in Ughelli North, is simply reprehensible.
We, the people of south south are neither fools nor slaves. While we believe in a united Nigeria, we also believe that a country’s unity is not determined by guns, sticks, wires, or hate speech; it is determined by the collective will of the people to forge a future that is beneficial to all.

We believe in a society where we all share equal opportunities and privileges, not one that is tinted towards a master-slave relationship.
We do not abhor violence, and we condemn it in its entirety. It is our desire that those who killed and butchered those military officers should be brought to justice as quickly as possible.
However, we condemn the genocide that is taking place in Otuama and surrounding Urhobo villages. It is quite unfortunate that our people are not speaking out.

Boko Haram has killed military men in their hundreds. They have killed civilians in their tens of thousands. They have burned down houses and villages. They have burned down churches and mosques. They have threatened to blow up Nigeria.

They even blew up the United Nations building in Abuja.
Yet northern elders and leaders, including Buhari, opposed any attempt by the military to invade any Northern community as a result of Boko Haram’s presence at the time.
The northern elders,again and again, went further to ask the government to withdraw the army from Borno, the headquarters of Boko Haram, in the face of these mindless killings, yet no community was destroyed, nor was any leader or Emir arrested.
In spite of the mindless genocide, murder, and killing of innocent men, women,women and children by Boko Haram, it is on record that Buhari publicly said that it was wrong for the military to move against Boko Haram.
He specifically said that any attack against Boko Haram should be viewed as an attack against the North as a whole. This actually happened before our very own eyes; I’m not talking about a century or even a decade ago. I am talking about a few years ago.
I also remember that when the United States government wanted to declare Boko Haram a terrorist organisation, the North vehemently opposed it. The Sultan of Sokoto led the opposition. He openly argued that the USA should not label Boko Haram a terrorist organisation as of then.
Like I said, I abhor violence in any form, but the point I intend to make is this: if an organisation as murderous and satanic as Boko Haram could have northern leaders, including Buhari, as open supporters, why should the unarmed and harmless civilians in the South South of Nigeria not be supported and protected? Why are Southern leaders acting dumb? Why are the Urhobos and their leaders behaving like slaves, and why are the South south political class behaving like house boys?
