Omo-Agege Abandons Sapele/Benin, Amukpe/Agbor Roads After Securing N80bn Presidential Approval
Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, who doubled as the Deputy Senate President and governorship candidate of Delta APC, has abandoned the Sapele-Benin and Amukpe-Agbor roads, which were included in his constituency projects.
Ejes Gist News Nigeria gathered that, on November 28th, 2022, Omo-Agege secured a whopping sum of N80 billion in presidential approval for the reconstruction of the Sapele/Benin and Amukpe/Agbor roads.
However, further findings by Ejes Gist News Nigeria revealed that the contractor, who was allegedly linked to Senator Ovie Omo-Agege’s relatives, had abandoned the road despite a larger amount of money released by the Buhari administration in the past 7 years for the road reconstruction.
The Amukpe-Eku-Abraka-Agbor road dualization project, which was captured in Senator Omo-Agege’s constituency projects (12/20), has been abandoned. This was also confirmed on his official, verified Facebook page.
Meanwhile, photos obtained by Ejes Gist News during a visit to the site have also confirmed that the road has been abandoned.
Ejes Gist News Nigeria recalls that in 2018, senate president Ovie Omo-Agege also campaigned with the road, promising Deltans that when he is elected to the second team, he will make sure the Eku to Agbor is fully completed. Four years later, he was unable to fulfil his promise.
Senator Ovie Omo-Agege confirmed the N80 billion for the road project on his verified Facebook account during a meeting with members of the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), which was held in Sapele on November 28, 2022. He revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the release of N80 billion for the reconstruction of the Sapele-Benin road and the Amukpe-Agbor road.
As of the time of filing this report, a call was put out to Senator Ovie Omo-Agege to give reasons why contractors abandoned the roads after securing N80 billion in approval from President Buhari proved abortive.
