Obaseki Inaugurates Omobayo Marvellous Godwins as Deputy Governor of Edo State
In a swift response to recent developments, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has administered the oath of office to Omobayo Marvellous Godwins as the new deputy governor of the state.
Omobayo assumes office following the impeachment of Philip Shaibu by the State House of Assembly earlier on Monday.
Shaibu’s impeachment came after the adoption of the report submitted by the Justice S. A. Omonua (rtd)-led impeachment panel, established by the Chief Judge of Edo State to probe allegations of misconduct and perjury against Shaibu.

Eighteen out of the 20 lawmakers present during the plenary on Monday voted in favor of the impeachment, with one voting against.
While the panel found the former deputy governor guilty of leaking government secrets, he was not found guilty of perjury.
Following Shaibu’s impeachment, Governor Obaseki swiftly inaugurated Omobayo to assume the position of deputy governor.
Omobayo, a native of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area in Edo North Senatorial District, shares a similar geographical background with the impeached deputy governor.
Born on July 19, 1986, Omobayo is described as a seasoned engineer with significant experience in the oil and gas sector. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and an MSc in Public Administration from the University of Benin (UNIBEN).
He is a registered member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
Omobayo has served as a Senior Maintenance Engineer in Dresser Wayne West Africa Limited, gaining valuable professional experience in the operations in the South-South region.
Active in local politics, the new deputy governor brings a blend of engineering expertise and political acumen to his new role in the administration of Edo State
