A 70-year-old woman gave birth to twins through IVF on Wednesday.

The woman, identified as Safina Namukwaya, welcomed a boy and a girl after a 40-year-long wait.

This marks Safina’s second delivery in three years, following the birth of a baby girl in 2020.

According to the Women’s Hospital International and Fertility Centre where Safina gave birth, her story is not only about medical success but also about the strength and resilience of the human spirit.

In a video posted on their Facebook page, Safina explained that she takes care of other people’s children, but when they grow up, they leave her. “I used to wonder who would stay with me when I get old. A young boy once told me that my mother cursed me, saying I would die without any children of my own,” she said.

She mentioned that since she has been in the hospital, her husband has not visited her, and she added that fertility expert Dr. Edward Sali provides her with money for food.

“I don’t know how I will take care of these children, but God is in control. You can have one child and still be burdened, but with twins, sometimes I feel weak in the body, and I can’t go to the farm to plant crops that I can sell. Every child has their own blessing,” she expressed.

Dr. Sali, the fertility expert, stated that they have conducted several tests on the mother, emphasizing the importance of physical fitness for a successful nine-month pregnancy.

This isn’t the first time a septuagenarian is making headlines for giving birth. In 2019, a 73-year-old woman broke the world record as the oldest to give birth after having twins through IVF, following 54 years of marriage.

Safina delivered her twins around 12:04 pm on Wednesday through a caesarean section at the fertility hospital. “Men don’t like to hear that their wife is carrying more than one child. Since they admitted me here, my man has not shown up,” she disclosed.

Meanwhile, the Women’s Hospital International and Fertility Centre in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, claimed on their Facebook page that Safina, at the age of 70, is the oldest African woman to give birth. The fertility hospital reported that both the mother and her children are doing well. Always visit Ejes Gist News for the latest breaking news.
