Police officers Slap, brutalize IMSU students for refusing access to Phones
Some police officers in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, have physically assaulted and brutalised some Imo State University (IMSU) students for allegedly refusing to hand over their mobile phones for search.
In a 45-second video of the incident, police officers can be seen dragging and ripping the victims’ clothing while slapping, hitting, and hitting them with a machete.

According to the video footage captured by locals, police officers in a deep red Toyota Sienna minivan stormed the students’ housing complex and began brutally assaulting them without providing any explanation for their actions.
One of the residents who recorded the incident stated in pidgin English, “See how he is cutting him with a cutlass. What kind of object is this? Observe the police in action. They entered someone’s property. See what the Owerri police are doing. These individuals did nothing. They (police) enter the compound quickly.”
A Twitter user, @ebe_tins, who posted the video online stated, “These are Imo state university students who are being assaulted by police because they refuse to hand over their phones to be inspected.”
Henry Okoye, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, stated that the state police command was aware of the incident and that an investigation to identify the officers was ongoing.

Okoye, requesting that the incident’s victims contact the state police command, stated, “This is completely unacceptable and does not meet our standards.
“Imo Police Command is aware of this offensive video, and we are currently conducting an investigation to identify the officers involved.”
