Bandits Kill Nine, Abduct 35, Including Retired CBN Director in Kaduna Attacks

Recent reports reveal a grim situation in Kaduna State, as bandits wreak havoc, claiming the lives of at least nine individuals in Kwasam community (Kauru LGA) and Gwada community (Igabi LGA).

The attacks also led to the abduction of 35 people, including a retired Director of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), his brother, and the brother’s wife.

Tragically, nine others sustained injuries during the onslaught in the two affected local government areas.

The retired CBN Director, identified as Zakariya Markus, became a target during the violent incursion, which took place penultimate Friday around 10 pm. Sources report that the bandits, at gunpoint, forced two individuals to guide them to the residence of the retired CBN staff, leading to his abduction.

The assailants then proceeded to his family house, kidnapping his brother and the brother’s wife. In an attempt by residents to rescue the victims, the bandits opened fire, resulting in the death of six people and the injury of two others.

The victims killed in the attacks include Danmasani Gwaska, Mrs. Giwa John, Kapishi Barmu, Ganya Ubangida, Shigama Salisu, and Gani Magawata. Those kidnapped include Mr. Zakariya Markus (retired CBN director), Mr. Monday Markus (Younger brother to the retired CBN staff), Mrs. Monday Markus (wife of Monday), Mr. Alhamdu Makeri’s son, and Baban Fati of Kauru.

Kaduna Governor Uba Sani has urgently called for intensified military operations against bandits across the state following these heinous attacks.

The Governor expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and, through the Overseeing Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, assured the affected communities of ongoing efforts to address the security challenges. Governor Uba Sani emphasized the commitment to sustained aggressive military operations in frontline areas, including Kauru LGA, as part of comprehensive efforts to secure the state.
