Pastor William Kumuyi, the General Superintendent of Deeper Life Church, in a response to Pope Francis recent approval of blessings for same sex-marriage has strongly asserted that such unions contradict the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Addressing attendees at the opening ceremony of the joint global crusade and the 2023 National December Retreat, themed “Emmanuel,” Kumuyi expressed his belief that the biblical command of Christ is clear – advocating for marriages between a man and a woman.

“The Lord Jesus Christ told us before he left that we should go to the world, teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost; teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you,” Kumuyi emphasized. “We stand in obedience to Christ and submissive to Him and carry on the works of Christ that said a man and a woman should be joined together in marriage until death do us part.”

Kumuyi went on to highlight the significance of the yuletide season, noting that it is a time to celebrate the impacts and sacrifices made by Jesus for the entire world.

We don’t condemn them, but we want to show them the best alternative,” Kumuyi explained. “We’ll show them steps that lead to the discovery of what they are searching for. They will have the redirection they ought to have in life, and a great thing is going to happen to everyone that comes.”

Kumuyi’s strong stance against same-sex marriages in the wake of Pope Francis’s approval adds a layer of complexity to the ongoing global discourse on the intersection of religious teachings and evolving societal norms.
