Only Nigerians, according to Labour Party National Secretary Umar Farouk, can prevent Peter Obi, the party’s candidate for president in the 2023 elections, from winning.
This was said by Farouk in an interview that aired on Politics Today on Channels Television on Thursday.

Farouk responded when asked what could prevent Obi from becoming president of Nigeria in 2023, “That is the docility of Nigerians not to select good leaders.
It is up to Nigerians to decide if they want to maintain the status quo and if they do not want a capable leader who can improve the situation.

Farouk asserts that the party will win thanks to the momentum of the Obidients, as Obi’s supporters are known.
He insisted that Nigerians must decide they are sick of the current system.

Regarding the crisis that is roiling the party’s chapter in Ogun State, Farouk claimed that some party members had compromised and permitted outsiders to infiltrate them.
He asserted that the National Chairman’s response to a petition from an Ogun State chapter member alleging financial mismanagement was appropriate given the prevalence of similar claims across all political parties.

The Director General of the presidential campaign, Doyin Okupe, was purportedly suspended by the Ogun chapter of the Labour Party, but the national level of the party later declared the action to be invalid, according to the Labour Party National Secretary.
Farouk advised leaders with complaints to always trust the internal conflict resolution mechanism of the party rather than going to the public to disparage themselves and the party, noting that it is common for political parties to have problems.
