Ahmed Atilade, Islamic Cleric arrested for threatening to kill police officers

 

The Nigeria Police Force announced on Sunday that it had arrested Ahmed Atilade, an Islamic cleric who was caught on video in February of this year threatening to kill police officers who stopped his vehicle for routine checks and questioning in Ibadan, Oyo State.

CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, announced in a statement on Sunday that the Islamic cleric had been charged and would be arraigned in court.

Adejobi stated, “On Saturday, February 4, 2023, while on stop-and-search duty along the Ibadan Expressway in Oyo State, a 28-year-old man named Ahmed Atidade assaulted and threatened to kill the police officers who stopped and questioned his vehicle.

 

“He was arrested and charged with a crime on Thursday, February 9, 2023.” We will not permit anyone to undermine and ridicule our officers and, by extension, our Nigerian policing system.

“As citizens of this country, we have many responsibilities to respect the law enforcement officers who work day and night to ensure the safety of our nation.

 

“We will do everything in our power to protect officers who perform their duties diligently and lawfully from harassment or attack by any individual or group.”

Meanwhile, The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared Anas Shuaibu, the candidate for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the winner of the rerun election for the Karim 2 State Constituency in Taraba State’s House of Assembly.

INEC Returning Officer, Dr. Bawuro Manga of the Federal University Wukari, announced the results in Zailani, the constituency’s administrative center, stating that Shuaibu received 7,104 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Bobbo Bello Bendu of the PDP, who received 6,587 votes.

Therefore, he declared him the victor, elected to office.
