Misconduct: PSC Announces Dismissal Of 3 CSPs, Demotes ACP, 4 Others

On April 26, 2023, the approved the dismissal of three Assistant Superintendents of Police and the demotion of one Assistant Commissioner of Police, one Chief Superintendent, two Superintendents, and one Assistant Superintendent.

In addition, the Commission sanctioned an Assistant Commissioner of Police, a Chief Superintendent of Police, four Superintendents, two Deputy Superintendents, and twelve Assistant Superintendents of Police with a severe reprimand.

Ikechukwu Ani, spokesman for the Commission, stated, “These were the highlights of the Commission’s 20th Plenary Meeting, which was held at the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, and presided over by the Commission’s Chairman and former Inspector General of Police, Dr. Solomon Arase.

In addition, the Commission approved reprimands for six Officers, one Superintendent, and five Assistant Superintendents.

The Plenary also approved the promotions of 109 Commission senior staff members.
The Chairman of the Commission, who was presiding over the Meeting for the first time, congratulated the newly promoted staff on their success on the promotion exam, but reminded them that their new status demanded greater sacrifice in their conduct of government business.

Dr. Arase stated that they must return the favour by exerting greater effort in the service of the Commission.

He assured that the promotion of staff will be a top priority during his term in office, but cautioned that the staff must be open to self-improvement and ready for upcoming challenges.

Additionally, the Chairman urged the Police to ensure they adhere to the laws that govern their operations.

Arase reassured them that from now on, disciplinary matters will be handled expeditiously so that Officers who are found to be deficient will serve their punishments and those who are exonerated will be able to advance in their careers without obstruction.

Chairman of the Commission thanked members of the Commission for their commitment and dedication to the task at hand, assuring them that he will include everyone in the challenging task of rebuilding the Commission and the Nigeria Police Force.
