Rivers High Court Grants Restraining Order Against Impeachment of Governor Fubara

In a significant legal development, a Rivers High Court in the Isiokpo Division of Ikwerre Local Government Area has issued a restraining order preventing the State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, from proceeding with the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The order was granted in response to an ex parte application filed by the governor through his legal representative, Damian Okoro (SAN), on November 1.

It is reported that Deputy Speaker Dumle Maol, the Clerk of the House, and the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi, have been served with the restraining order.

Justice Ben Whyte directed all parties involved to maintain the status quo while the motion on notice is being deliberated.

The hearing for the motion on notice has been scheduled for November 14, 2023. This legal move marks a significant development in the ongoing political situation in Rivers State.
