Significant Leadership Changes as Ten States Welcome New

In a major development on January 31, 2024, Ten states in Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ekiti, Adamawa, and Imo, witnessed a change in leadership with the appointment of new Commissioners of Police (CPs).

The Police Service Commission formally approved and announced these crucial appointments, signifying a strategic move in the nation’s law enforcement landscape.

The new CPs are set to assume responsibilities in their respective states, taking charge of law enforcement and public safety. Among the appointees is Mr. Beneth Igwe, who has been designated as the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command. His return to this key role follows a prior appointment as the Commander of the FCT Special Intervention Squad.

Other notable appointments include Peter Opara, formerly Deputy Commissioner of Administration in Imo State, who has been posted to Osun State; Olughemiga Adesina, assigned to Benue State; Akinwale Adeniran, appointed to the Ekiti State Command; and Mohammed Abba, taking on the Adamawa State Command.

The reshuffling of leadership also includes Abaniwonda Olufemi, who assumes leadership in the Delta State Command; Ademola Ayilara, transitioning from the role of Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department (State CID) in Lagos Command, to head the Akwa Ibom State Command.

Additionally, David Iloyanomon, previously DCP Administration in Anambra State Command, has been posted to lead the Taraba State Command. Abayomi Peter takes over the Ondo State Command, while Hassan Yabnet is now the Commissioner of Police for the Plateau State Command.

This move by the Police Service Commission aligns with their commitment to effective law enforcement and the safety of citizens. Dr. Solomon Arase, the Chairman of the Commission, emphasized the need for the newly appointed CPs to establish and rebuild public trust through strong partnerships with the communities they serve.
