Abuja, Nigeria – The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has refuted recent reports suggesting a plot by certain Senators to impeach him upon their return from the annual vacation. These allegations surfaced amid claims that disgruntled lawmakers who missed out on coveted Senate Committee positions were behind the supposed plan.

Reports indicated that two former governors from the North West were leading the alleged move to oust Senator Akpabio, who represents Akwa Ibom North West and serves as the Senate President.
However, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Honourable Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio dismissed the reports as a “syndicated media attack from outside the precincts of the National Assembly.”
The statement emphasized that Senators were presently concluding their holidays, taking time to refresh themselves after the rigors of inauguration and ministerial screening. Akpabio’s office stated, “All senators are also refreshing themselves ahead of resumption, and suggestions that they are presently engaged in other subversive plots against the institution is rather uncharitable.”
Furthermore, the statement addressed those Senators who initially did not support Akpabio’s leadership but later endorsed it. It noted that linking these Senators to alleged conspiracies with vague insinuations was unfair.
Akpabio’s office appealed to the media not to give credence to such conspiratorial tales and to refrain from damaging the reputations that Senators had built over time.
The statement effectively denies any ongoing impeachment plot against the Senate President, emphasizing the commitment of Senators to their respective constituencies and their dedication to their legislative duties.
