A faction within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), known as the Concerned PDP League (CPDPL), has expressed its opposition to the party’s proposal of nominating Senator Aminu Tambuwal as the Senate Minority Leader.

Mr. Daboikiabo Warmate, the Chairman of CPDPL, released a statement on Wednesday, alleging that the group does not support Tambuwal due to his actions as the former Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Warmate argued that the position should instead be assigned to a state in the North-Central region, specifically Plateau. He criticized Tambuwal for defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during his tenure as Speaker, despite being given the position by the PDP.

Warmate expressed disappointment and shock at Tambuwal’s desire to become the minority leader in the 10th Senate, questioning his credibility and courage based on his past behavior.

He called for a mid-term convention and the dissolution of the party’s National Working Committee to foster new ideas. The CPDPL also urged the Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Amb. Umar Damagum, not to endorse Tambuwal as the Minority Leader.

Warmate praised the former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, for providing a strong opposition voice during the eight years of the APC-led Federal Government under President Buhari. The CPDPL emphasized the importance of the party representing the interests of the people and not being exploited or abandoned by its leaders.
