Despite Wearing N825 Million Wristwatch and Flying Presidential Jet, Seyi Tinubu Urges Nigerians to Endure Hunger
Amidst the backdrop of economic hardship and soaring food prices in Nigeria, Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, known for flaunting opulence, has urged Nigerians to have faith in his father’s government and endure the prevailing difficulties.

In an Instagram post on Monday, Seyi Tinubu, who previously showcased a Richard Mille RM 055 luxury watch valued at $550,000 or N825 million, appealed to Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s government. He quoted his father, saying, “There is no joy in seeing the people of this nation shoulder burdens that should have been shed years ago. I wish today’s difficulties did not exist. But we must endure if we are to reach the good side of our future.”

Seyi Tinubu used hashtags such as #HaveFaithinHim, #NigeriaisinGreatHands, #OurGenerationwillYieldthefruitsofthishardship, #IStandwithOurPresident, #RenewedHope, and #NigeriaismyHome to rally support for his father.
However, his plea faced criticism from some Instagram followers who questioned whether faith in the government would meet their basic needs. One user, @ololade, asked, “Na faith we go use buy foodstuffs and pay bills?” Another, @empresstok, expressed skepticism, stating, “How far are u enduring? You can say that to the masses cos you are not in their shoes.”
This statement comes after Seyi Tinubu was previously criticized for using a presidential jet to attend a polo match in Kano in 2023, a move that stirred controversy during a period of economic challenges for Nigerians.
While Seyi Tinubu’s appeal for support unfolded on social media, protests erupted in Ibadan over the high cost of living, with demonstrators expressing discontent with President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Similar protests have occurred in various states, including Niger, Kano, Osun, and Lagos, as citizens voice concerns about hunger and economic hardships.
Over the past nine months, staple food prices have surged by almost 100%, exacerbated by inflation triggered by the removal of the petrol subsidy and the floating of the naira, both initiated by President Bola Tinubu. These policy shifts have led to a significant increase in petrol prices and a decline in the value of the naira against the dollar in the parallel market.
