Sheriff Oborevwori Urges Graduates to Create Jobs for Themselves

In a bid to inspire the next generation of professionals, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has called on graduates to take the initiative in creating jobs for themselves and others. The governor made this passionate appeal on Saturday during the third combined convocation ceremony of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku.

Represented by his deputy, Monday Onyeme, Governor Oborevwori emphasised that graduation marks a pivotal moment for setting new goals and targets. He urged graduates not to merely rest on their laurels but to actively apply the knowledge and skills acquired during their academic journey.

The convocation ceremony witnessed the inauguration of several key projects aimed at enhancing the learning environment. Among these projects were a 350-capacity lecture hall, state-of-the-art facilities for volleyball, basketball, and multi-purpose courts, as well as an ICT Microsoft Certification Centre.

Addressing the graduates, Governor Oborevwori stated, “The public and private sectors will benefit from your education and professionalism, while the entrepreneurial world awaits your ideas. In line with the philosophy of this administration of producing graduates with entrepreneurial skills, it is our earnest expectation that you will go out there and create jobs for yourself and others.”

Commending the achievements of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, the governor acknowledged the institution’s growth in infrastructure, capacity building, and sports development. He urged the Governing Council, management, and staff to continue their efforts in improving the overall academic experience.

Governor Oborevwori affirmed his commitment to fostering a conducive learning environment in public institutions at all levels. He highlighted the government’s dedication to providing adequate infrastructure and equipment for laboratories, as well as maintaining a peaceful environment for both staff and students.

Chief Jonathan Arausi, the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Polytechnic, echoed the call for collaboration. He urged stakeholders, corporate organisations, and people of goodwill to join hands with the Delta State Government in sustaining the Polytechnic’s reputation as a global centre for academic excellence.

Expressing gratitude to Governor Oborevwori, the rector of the polytechnic, Prof. Emmanuel Achuenu, commended the governor’s unwavering commitment to the growth of education in the state.

The convocation ceremony also featured the presentation of awards to deserving individuals, acknowledging their contributions to the institution’s success.
