The police headquarters in Freetown, located on George Street, issued a statement on Monday confirming the arrests and ongoing investigations. While expressing concerns over attempts to disrupt the country’s hard-won peace and democratic progress, the Sierra Leonean police assured the public that the nation’s security sector has the situation under control.

 

This incident comes amid rising tensions and divisions among member states of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The recent alliance between Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger Republic, coupled with their engagement with Russia for military assistance, has added complexities to the region’s security dynamics.
