Rivers State House of Assembly in Crisis as Leader Removed Amid Impeachment Speculations
A fresh crisis has erupted within the Rivers State House of Assembly as speculations about an impending impeachment procedure against the state Governor, Sim Fubara, continue to circulate. The House took a significant step on Monday by removing its leader, Edison Ehie.
Ehie was removed from his position as House Leader over allegations that he oversaw the burning of the Assembly Complex on Sunday night.
Under the leadership of Speaker Martin Amaewhule, the Assembly also served an impeachment notice on the governor. Surprisingly, Governor Fubara made an appearance at the Assembly Complex amidst these developments.
The situation rapidly escalated as House members fled the Assembly Complex for their safety when tear gas was fired outside the building.
The developments have led to protests outside the Complex, with supporters of the governor resisting his impending impeachment.

While the cause of the fire at the Assembly Complex remains unclear, rumors of a growing rift between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who currently serves as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, have been circulating for some time.
The political climate in Rivers State is becoming increasingly volatile, and the situation is likely to continue evolving.
