Proof of Ownership Certificate (POC)  fee. 

The Federal Government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has implemented a new policy mandating all motorists to pay an annual fee of N1,000 for the verification of their Proof of Ownership Certificate (POC).

In a joint press conference held in Ikeja on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, Engr. Abdulhafiz Toriola, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos Ministry of Transportation, announced the implementation of an initiative.

In a recent statement, he revealed that the objective of the action is to simplify and reinforce the process of confirming vehicle ownership. He further disclosed that the Lagos State government will commence the collection of this levy from July 2023.

 

According to the spokesperson, this action is in accordance with the National Road Traffic Regulation 2012, as amended, No. 101, Vol. 99, Section 73-(1), which mandates the possession of a Proof of Ownership Certificate for all registered vehicles. As per Section 73-(1-6), it is mandatory to create and uphold a Central Database for Vehicles and drivers throughout the nation.

According to Toriola, the decision has been made with the intention of monitoring the current status of vehicles and ensuring that the National Vehicle and Identification Scheme (NVIS) database remains accurate and reliable.

 

 

The Federal Government has recently implemented a new policy that requires all registered vehicles to obtain an annual Proof of Ownership Certificate.

Upon successful completion of the necessary requirements and procedures, this certificate will officially document the legal owners of a vehicle.

The Proof of Ownership Certificate (POC) will reportedly hold crucial data pertaining to the vehicle’s registration particulars, including number plate number, model, year of production, as well as the owner’s name and address.

In a recent emergency meeting held on May 9th, 2023, the Joint Tax Board addressed the challenges faced in promoting safety and security of lives and property through the issuance of Proof of Ownership Certificates (PoC) both nationally and within the state. According to a communiqué issued by the board, they have adopted a resolution to issue PoCs to motorists on an annual basis across the country. This decision was made after a critical review of the challenges encountered in ensuring the promotion of safety and security.
