The Abuja Peace Pact, brokered by President Bola Tinubu to address the political turmoil in Rivers State between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his estranged political mentor, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, has collapsed.

The resignation of two Commissioners from Governor Fubara’s cabinet on Wednesday marked a significant indication of this breakdown.

Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor, and Finance Commissioner, Hon. Isaac Kamalu, stepped down from their positions in the Rivers State Executive Council following their redeployment to other Ministries.

Earlier, both appointees, known for their allegiance to Wike, had resigned amid tensions between the political heavyweights.

President Tinubu’s intervention led to the signing of a peace pact with conditions for both factions, including the reintegration of Wike’s allies into Fubara’s cabinet.

However, signs of discord emerged as both appointees rejected their reassignments, expressing disinterest in serving under Governor Fubara.

Professor Adangor’s resignation was swiftly followed by Isaac Kamalu’s, who was reassigned to the Ministry of Employment Generation and Empowerment.

In his resignation letter to Governor Fubara via the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, Kamalu lamented being redeployed despite his significant contributions to the state’s economic development. Both former commissioners are staunch loyalists of former governor and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
