 Nigeria’s  wins Diamond League.

Nigerian track and field athlete Tobi Amusan showcased her outstanding talent once again by clinching the gold medal in the women’s 100 meters hurdles at the Stockholm Diamond League meeting on Sunday. As the defending champion in the Diamond League’s 100 meters hurdles category, Amusan displayed her dominance by clocking an impressive time of 12.52 seconds (0.9 wind) to secure the top spot. Her nearest competitor, Sarah Lavin of Ireland, achieved a personal best of 12.73 seconds but fell short of Amusan’s remarkable performance.

Despite adverse weather conditions, including heavy rainfall that disrupted and delayed some events like the pole vault, Amusan remained focused on her goal. Expressing her joy at the victory, she said, “I am excited to be out here competing and it is great to get the win on the back of Lausanne (silver).” Amusan acknowledged that she was not entirely satisfied with her current form but expressed trust in the process, even when faced with challenges.

Amusan was not the sole African athlete to shine in Sweden. South Africa’s  secured his second consecutive Diamond League title in the men’s 100 meters, recording a time of 10.03 seconds. In the men’s 400 meters, Zakhiti Nene of South Africa claimed the gold with a time of 45.30 seconds, narrowly edging out Nigeria’s Emmanuel Bamidele (45.48 seconds). In the women’s 5,000 meters, Kenya’s Beatrice Chebet displayed her prowess with a time of 14 minutes and 36.52 seconds, dominating the race.

Ethiopia’s emerged victorious in the women’s 1500 meters with a time of 4 minutes and 2.31 seconds, while Morocco’s Soufiane El Bakkali continued his winning streak by triumphing in the 3000 meters steeplechase with a time of 8 minutes and 9.84 seconds.
