Two Top Police Officers Mobbed to Death in Edo; Vigilantes Rescue Two

In a tragic incident in Ikpeshi, a community in Akoko-Edo local government area, two policemen were brutally beaten to death after their convoy collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the death of the rider and the occupants.

The policemen, reportedly part of an escort convoy for former Edo State House of Assembly member Hon Emmanuel Agbaje, were in a Hilux when the accident occurred. Irate youths, reacting to the tragic collision, stormed the Edo State Security Volunteer Network () office where the policemen were taken into custody.

The angry mob overran the facility, leading to the fatal beating of two officers. Simultaneously, members of the vigilante group managed to rescue the other two officers, who are currently receiving treatment in the hospital. The vigilante group also successfully recovered the rifles of the deceased .

The affected officers were identified as Police Mobile Force 19 from Port Harcourt, Rivers state, namely Inspector Brownson Brown, Inspector Abubaka Fakkuk, Sergeant Taiye Ojiefo, and Sergeant Elisha John.

 

 

According to a police source, the tragic incident unfolded when the convoy, comprising the police officers and Hon Emmanuel Agbaje, collided with a motorcycle carrying a woman and a child. The rider and passenger of the motorcycle lost their lives instantly. In response, an enraged mob attacked the policemen, resulting in the deaths of Inspector Abubaka Fakku and Sergeant Elisha John.

Confirming the incident, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chidi Nwabuzor, stated that more details would be made available to the public in due time.

Chairman of the Akoko-Edo local government area, Hon Tajudeen Alade, condemned the heinous act by the youths. He commended the vigilante group for their efforts to save the lives of the policemen and pledged to bring those involved in the attack to justice. Additionally, he assured support for the twin sister of one of the occupants of the motorcycle involved in the collision.
