Vehicles Seized From Matawalle’s House Raid Amid Showdown With New Govt

 

A number of vehicles were seized from the residence of Bello Matawalle, the former governor of Zamfara State, in Gusau, the state capital.

 

Sources told Ejes Gist Nigeria that Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) were seized during Friday’s raid on Matawalle’s Gusau residence.

A source told the Ejes Gist News Nigeria that a total of four jeeps were seized, though this online newspaper cannot independently confirm this.

According to reports, police officers stormed the former governor’s residence, which is close to Government House, Gusau.

Bello Matawalle’s house raid

 

Attempts to contact ASP Yazdi Abubakar, Police Public Relations Officer in Zamfara, was foiled as his phone was engaged when we attempted to reach him.

Zailani Bappa, the former governor’s Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment, Media, and Communication, was also unavailable at the time of this report because his mobile phone was off.

 

Two days after assuming power, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara accused Matawalle of fleeing with 17 government vehicles and stealing property from the state government house, including televisions and stoves.

 

“The atrocities are beyond comprehension; I’ve never witnessed such blatant irresponsibility. However, I assure the citizens of the state that we will do our best to correct the anomalies through careful planning.”

Lawal, who issued the ultimatum through his spokesman Sulaiman Idris, vowed to recover the state government’s stolen funds and property.

 

“We have access to the facts and records that demonstrate Matawalle’s impropriety. Where is the untruth? The former governor awarded a N1,149,800,000 contract for the purchase of vehicles to be distributed to dignitaries and Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). Hafkhad Properties and Facilities Management Nig. Ltd. has been awarded the contract to purchase the vehicles.”

“The funds were intended for the acquisition of a Toyota Lexus VIP Bullet Proof 2021 Model, a Toyota Land Cruiser VIP Bullet Proof 2021 Model, a Toyota Prado V6 2021 Model, a Toyota Prado V4 2021 Model, a Peugeot 2021 Model, a Toyota Hilux 2021 Model, a Toyota Land Cruiser Bullet Proof 2021, and a Toyota Lexus 2021 Model.

“We have formally requested that former Governor Bello Matawalle and his Deputy return all missing vehicles within five working days,” he stated.

 

According to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Matawalle is under investigation for misappropriating N70 billion.

 

Matawalle responded by accusing Abdulrasheed Bawa, chairman of the commission, of demanding $2 million in bribes from him.
