The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Thursday reported that 36 officers lost their lives in Niger State. The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, verified the casualties while providing details about both the attack on troops in Niger State and the crash of an evacuation helicopter on August 14, 2023.

This information was presented during the biweekly briefing conducted by the Defence Media Operations.

Regarding the cause of the helicopter crash, he reiterated that an ongoing investigation is in progress to ascertain the underlying factors.

He called on citizens to exercise caution in the face of propaganda and false information disseminated by terrorists, urging them to maintain their sense of patriotism.

Troops were ambushed by terrorists in the Zungeru area of the state, leading to the unfortunate loss of brave Nigerian Army soldiers.

Additionally, a Nigerian Air Force MI-171 Helicopter, which was on a mission for casualty evacuation, crashed on Monday in the Shiroro Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
