Dr. Agbu Kefas, the governor of Taraba State, announced a 24-hour curfew on Karim town and its surrounds in the state’s Karim Lamido Local Government Area on Sunday.
The curfew was imposed in response to further communal hostilities in the LGA between the Wurkuns and the Karimjos, which purportedly resulted in the deaths of at least 50 people and the burning of numerous houses on Saturday.

Usman Abdullahi, spokesman for the Taraba State Police Command, said the incident began at 3 a.m. on Saturday and that the precise number of casualties had yet to be determined.
“In the last few days, there have been pockets of guerilla attacks in some communities in the area where the Karimjos attack the Wurkuns, and the Wurkuns also attack in return,” Abdullahi said, “or the Wurkuns attack the Karimjos, and they also attack in return.”
The governor imposed a curfew on the LGA on Sunday and urged security services to enforce it strictly.
According to Yusuf Sanda, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Kefas has directed “all ward heads, village heads, traditional rulers, and stakeholders in Karim Lamido Local Government Area” to take note and guarantee compliance.
