Alhaji Aliyu Maina: National Rescue Movement’s (NRM) gubernatorial candidate dies

Alhaji Aliyu Maina, the National Rescue Movement’s (NRM) candidate for governor of Adamawa State, has passed away.

Olusola Afuye, the NRM’s National Publicity Secretary, has confirmed Maina’s passing.

His passing occurs less than 30 days before the general elections of the following year.

He was said to have passed away on January 25 in Abuja after a brief illness, the same day that Professor Uchenna Ikonne, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate for governor of Abia State, was officially declared dead.

According to the family’s statement, Alhaji Abba Maina passed away on January 25 at his home in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, following a brief illness.

“He was buried in accordance with Muslim custom. We ask the Almighty Allah to keep his loved ones, including his family, safe, Afuye said.

He urged friends in politics and business to show late Maina’s family support and love during the time of mourning, adding that specifics of the arrangements would be made public after consulting with his family.
